"As an artist, I aim to make sense of what is already surrounding and inside of us all. Rather than demanding more resources, I ask questions to myself and others to learn from the history of our differing, yet similar, lives paths. I notice what is and say yes to it. Through this research, freedom and pure connection are found. I am never interested in trying to be, I just am. I vow to be honest and trusting in the moments of reflection and sharing that arise. I embrace the happy accidents and the cyclical patterns that flow between us all. This is what fuels my research. The person I was, am, and will be in a space with people who were, are, and will be. Through discussion and play I reveal the richness of what already exists. I intend to create a full body of satisfying yet disruptive work that immerses witnesses and performers alike. My philosophy is founded on permission. Permission to be risky, aloof, loud, and sly simultaneously. I foster a world where all can reclaim their power and unapologetically be."
Celeste Goldes
Celeste Goldes is an NYC-based performing artist and creative. Celeste is creating a surreal and immersive body of choreographic works that investigate and challenge both the existential and simplest of questions. Through her work, she empowers both performers and witnesses alike to say “yes” to their impulses, in the hopes of fostering a space of acceptance and understanding for both the self and others. Celeste never underestimates the power of laughter and the freedom of play, and her undoubtedly profound body of work aims to be pleasurable yet provocative to experience. She hopes you feel empowered by the amalgamation of sensations evoked.
At New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Celeste has uniquely cultivated her dancing, choreography, acting, and comedic voice, and will receive her BFA in dance this Spring. Celeste was chosen this past Summer to study at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance in Salzburg, Austria. In the Fall of 2023, Celeste had the opportunity to perform in French choreographer, Ashley Chen's, piece "Distances" at the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in NYC.
